NEW DELHI: Dhirendra Singh, the main accused in the Ballia shooting incident, has been arrested from Lucknow, along with another accused.
With this, the number of people arrested in the case has gone up to seven.
Dhirendra, carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was arrested near the Janeshwar Mishra Park in Gomti Nagar area by the Special Task Force. He is considered close to Surendra Singh, BJP MLA from Bariya assembly seat.
On Thursday, a 46-year-old man was killed in a firing over a dispute at a meeting for the allotment of ration shops in Durjanpur village in Reoti area of Ballia district.
The crime took place in the presence of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and the Circle Officer of the area.
UP CM Adityanath ordered suspension of the SDM, CO and other police personnel present on the spot.
Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday said it would invoke the stringent National Security Act and Gangster Act against the accused.
