NEW DELHI: While Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a commemorative Rs 100 denomination coin on the birth centenary of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia on Monday, several other BJP leaders paid glowing tributes to the leader, who played crucial role in laying foundation for the saffron surge being witnessed now.
Raje was one of several leaders, who stuck to the ideology of Sangh and the BJP even when adversities were stacked against her during the emergency period.
Her family, once divided politically, is also under one umbrella of BJP after her grandson Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the saffron party recently.
The Prime Minister reminisced about his own reference in the book authored by Scindia and said he was fortunate to have got the opportunity to release a special commemorative coin of 100 rupees.
“In Vijayaraje ji’s book, I was introduced as a youth leader of Gujarat and today after so many years, I am serving as the Pradhan sevak of the country,” PM Modi said.
The PM said Scindia was one of those who led India in the right direction as she was a decisive leader and a skilled administrator.
“She witnessed every important phase of Indian politics be it burning of foreign clothes, the emergency and the Ram Temple movement,” the PM said and asserted that it was important for the present generation to know about Rajmata’s life and therefore, it is necessary to repeatedly mention about her and her experiences.
“Rajmata had dedicated herself for the future of the nation. She had sacrificed all her happiness for the future generations of the country. Rajmata did not live for the position and prestige, nor did she do politics,” the PM said.
The Prime Minister said it is also a wonderful coincidence that her dream of Ramjanmabhoomi temple for which she fought, has been fulfilled in the year of her birth centenary.
Scindia was one of the architects of the temple movement, which was acknowledged by other leaders including law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
“During her lifetime, Rajmata had played an important role in the construction of the grand temple of Ramlala in Ayodhya. She had instilled enthusiasm among countless Rama devotees. Let us all remember her contribution to the movement for the foundation of the construction of the Grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya,” Prasad said.
Scindia’s kin, who are in active politics holding key responsibilities in BJP, today including former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje, senior party leaders in Madhya Pradesh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Yasodhara Raje and Dushyant Singh (Lok Sabha MP from Jhalwar) joined the saffron party leaders in paying tributes to her.
