NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Friday laid down three fixed timelines for candidates and parties to publicise their criminal antecedents in newspapers as well as on television, during the 14-day period between the last date of withdrawal of nomination and end of campaign.
As per the revised norms, candidates as well as the party nominating them will have to publish information on their criminal background as well as reason for their selection, in the first instance, within first four days of the last date of withdrawal of nomination; in the second instance, within fifth and eighth day of last date of withdrawal; and in the third instance, from ninth day till the last day of campaign.
“The (new) timeline will help voters in exercising their choices in more informed manner,” the EC said on Friday.
